Typically, when I see such exhaustion, I ask the question, “Are you delegating?” Too many leaders want to make all the decisions and not delegate those decisions to others. That will quickly lead to burnout, no matter how much you love the work! To avoid this, I have advised others to use the decision funnel that walks through eliminating, automating, or delegating. These steps will help one determine how to handle a task in front of them. If someone must perform the task, then so be it. However, they must be honest with themselves, especially regarding delegation. Delegation is not just handing someone the task or decision and walking away. Delegation typically takes an investment of your time, investing in someone else’s growth, before you can delegate. The question is, are you willing? 

Rest is also bigger than many realize. I recall walking into our college computer lab (we had those in my day) one morning and seeing a friend frazzled because she couldn’t figure out why her computer code was not performing as she desired. She had been up all night trying to figure it out with no success. The assignment was due that day, and she was completely at her wit’s end. I asked her if I could take a look, and within a couple of minutes, the problem was solved. Lack of rest killed her ability to think clearly. Sometimes, we simply need to get some rest and recharge.
